ORDER OF THE MORNING AT McCARLEY PARK BEHIND THE MUSEUM

SATURDAY MORNING OCTOBER 21ST, 2023

It was a perfect Autumn October day, scarcely a Panhandle breeze to flutter the golden tree leaves. The Ranger Prayer was prayed and the US and Texas flags were pledged to by almost one hundred people in attendance. Quietly, a man walked to the podium, and spoke the name of a Texas Ranger, deceased for over one hundred years. A young Boy Scout stepped out of his formation of 8 tall Texas Flags, recently flown over the State Capitol. He silently stood, holding a single, gently furling Texas Flag.

The huge, echoing BOOM of the Cannon salute shook the quiet of the morning.

Before the smoke had cleared, two solemn Scouts removed the flag from the staff and ceremoniously folded it, as the man at the podium introduced us to this long ago Texas Hero.

The young Scout quietly crossed the green park to present that Texas Flag to the great, great grandson of a noted Frontier Ranger, Panhandle settler, and Freemason.

This scene was repeated again-more cannon shots and more flag presentations. Each Flag was our honorarium, and presented by us to the family members or their representatives on the Remembrance of each of the Texas Ranger Masons that were inducted into the Hall of Fame.

As the State of Texas is celebrating the Bicentennial Anniversary of the Texas Rangers, many formal events have been held across the State, and we were proud to invite the public to our Commemoration and Remembrance of Panhandle Masonic Rangers.

The event was a huge success. Almost a hundred people were present on a beautiful Autumn day in McCarley Park behind the museum, for Texas Flags, Cannon shots and Chuck Wagon cooking.

World Champion “Honey Do Spoiler” served delicious smoked Polish sausage and pinto beans.

Hunt Cattle Co. and grandsons from Canadian fed folks the absolute finest peach or strawberry cream Cobbler the Panhandle has ever seen!

After the outdoor Memorial and lunch, we moved into the Museum for the Exhibit Tour and Reception.

We were so Blessed, that almost every Ranger we honored had family ancestors present, who visited with each other and shared family histories. We extend our gratitude to those family members who traveled to the Museum to take part in this Celebration. It was our privilege to Honor and Remember your family member by inducting them in this manner into our virtual Hall of Fame.
